- Shirley Cate runs a great little music store just off I-20/59 at exit 100 between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. They carry Fender, Johnson, Samick and Alaverez guitars and various other brands and types of instruments, amplifiers and sound systems. They also have a great line of biker leather and when the weather's good, we do a little pickin' in the front yard on Tues nights and call it Beanstalk Jam. Check them out in person or on the web.

Not only does he carry a great stock wooden guitars from the likes of Collings, Taylor, Martin, Gibson etc. as well as a great line of mandolin's, banjos and accessories. They also employ some of the finest teachers in the state of Alabama. And they also have a very sweet dog and a comfortable couch

Friends
- Marty's
- The late night spot for music in Birmingham. Marty and all his staff run the friendliest place in town. The site is almost as pleasant a place to visit as the bar. Try them both.
- Stuart McNair
- Stuart is a good friend and great musician, who I have had the pleasure of playing with occasionally and listening to, often. (We've even been double-booked at the same venue twice in the last year, so there must be some cosmic connection) His first CD "I Can't See Over The Accordian" was an excellent album, with songs of great wit and style. I heard his band recently at Marty's and they were outstanding. Stuart can be found playing around Birmingham, Montevallo and Montgomery, and his new CD "Building a Fire" is a great piece of Americanna music.
- Steve Norris.WS WebSite
- Steve Norris is a singer/songwriter from Helena, Alabama who has been playing around the Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area since 1997 with his favorite band The Overalls. Before that, Steve was a part of the trio Robyn and the Journeyman Geezers. For the past year Steve has ventured out with country/folk solo performances. Steve’s debut solo CD, Tributes to Family and Friends, was released in January, 2002 (Tributes) and The Overalls’ 2004 self-titled CD was recorded and produced by Steve (http://www.TheOveralls.com).
- The Overalls Original Acoustic Music
- The Overalls are an acoustic trio from Alabama. One can tell straight out that they're southern, yet their appeal is wide spread. Rich harmonies, strong melodies and words that make you sit up and listen, flow from this trio.
They were formed in 1997. Rick and Jilda Watson are songwriters from Empire, Alabama and Steve Norris, who also writes, is from Helena, Alabama.
Rick also wrote a nice article about me and my music in Snakeskin, a local entertainment newspaper, in 2004.
- Sam Pointer
- Great local musician, who plays a variety of styles and instruments. He plays solo and in various groups around Birmingham. Check him out.
